Chiang Mai is one of the few places in Thailand where it is possible to find in the heart of the city centuries-old chedis and temples next to modern convenience stores and boutique hotels. Chiang Rai, the northernmost province of Thailand is about 490 miles north of Bangkok. The province, which is located within the renowned Golden Triangle area where Myanmar, Laos and Thailand converge, it is also known as the gateway to China.
  
   Attractions range from magnificent mountain scenery, ruins of ancient settlements, historic sites, Buddhist shrines and ethnic villages as the province is also home to several hill tribes. For those interested in the natural side of Chiang Rai, jungle trekking is suggested along various trails.
