There are over 200 golf courses in Thailand and although many are in the Bangkok area, over half are to be found elsewhere in the kingdom. Why play Golf in Thailand, more info (Click Here)

The main golfing areas can usefully be split into four regions outside Bangkok and these are as follows:

DSCN0706

Northern Thailand.

Centred around Chiang Mai, Thailand’s second city there are thirty courses. We have picked six to that we believe are the best, four close to Chiang Mai and two in the vicinity of Chiang Rai, another northern city three hours away by road.(Click Here)

Southern Thailand

Predominately in and near to Phuket, southern Thailand has twenty five courses. This area attracts more tourists than elsewhere and prices consequently tend to be higher. The seven courses we describe are all of the highest quality. A visit to Koh Samui to play the new Santiburi Samui is also feasible by plane. (Click Here)

Western Thailand

With fifteen courses centered around the popular family seaside resort of Hua Hin, we have chosen seven and a further two at Rachaburi (about halfway to Bangkok). The West has interesting golf, plenty of sights to see and beaches to relax on. The two centres are about two hours apart by road.   (Click Here)

Laem Chaebang, Pattaya

Eastern Thailand

Pattaya, the entertainment centre of Thailand has over twenty five golf courses. Many visitors play and the courses are fairly busy for most of the year. There are some gems and we list eight that we particularly like. In addition, there are three courses north east of Bangkok that deserve mention and that are easily reached by road from Bangkok. Why play in the Far East?

Thailand offers an unsurpassed golfing experience in terms of quality and value for money. It's still a new destination for British golfers although the Scandinavians, Australians, Japanese and Koreans have already discovered its delights. We've visited all the courses and they've been chosen from many others because they are, in our view, the best. We check standards continuously to ensure that they remain high.

 The Courses.

The courses we play are scenic, well designed, interesting. All are well kept and carefully manicured. Many are designed by world class designers and are long from the back tees, often over 7000 yards. From the competition and normal mens tees they present a challenging and enjoyable round. Greens are normally medium to fast, fairways immaculate and the semi-rough is consistent in texture and can prove awkward. Water features are widely used, supplying added interest and increased risk on many holes. The courses we use are often set in modestly hilly terrain.

Playing a round of golf in Thailand

Tee times are pre-booked and caddies are allocated on arrival. Courses are usually not busy during the week except during December, January and February in parts of the country.

After you’ve decided which tees to play from and you’re underway, you’ll find refreshment bars every few holes. It’s hot work so the refreshment is usually welcome and sometimes the views make the stop all the more enjoyable. Whether you’ve chosen to have a buggy or not, you’ll have a caddy. Normally ladies are employed and their knowledge of putting lines and aiming points through the green can help significantly on a course that’s new to you and further add to your day's enjoyment..

 Afterwards

After the round you’ll have excellent locker room facilities and the bar/restaurant will normally serve both Thai and Western dishes. Your transport will arrive when requested to take you back to your hotel.
